Tape Not Sticking? Is Your Floor Secretly Wet?

Wood, even a sealed wood gym floor, is porous. This natural porosity means that the wood will absorb and release moisture even if it has a hard finish on it. Wood swells and shrinks, based on temperature and humidity and it can hold water for a long period of time and release it slowly.

If you are using temporary floor tape on a gym floor to mark playing courts, you need to pay attention to areas where the tape either does not adhere properly, or does not hold as well as it does on other parts of the floor.

Regular blotting of these areas, particularly when the humidity is high will help. You also need to remember to tell your floor finisher when it is time to refinish your wood floor so that they can pay special attention to those areas.
