Winter Is Coming and It Is Tough On Gym Floors
The winter season is the toughest time of the year for most gym floors. Not only is it the time that gym floors are used most-fewer opportunities for outdoor activities-but it is also the time that the floor is faced with the most damaging conditions.
Wooden floors are subject to expansion and contraction when the temperature changes, and the extremes in temperature in the winter months can make it more likely that a floor will crack. Regular inspections can minimize this damage.
Streets and sidewalks have more grit and harsh chemicals like salt that can be tracked in to the gym. Make sure that your door mats are strategically placed, in good condition and are cleaned regularly.
HVAC systems run for longer hours when the weather is cold. Filters need to be regularly cleaned and replaced to minimize gritty dust.
